Layout Plans
This page is really just a dumping ground for my various layout ideas, have a look through you may find something which inspires your next layout.
Green Ore Road is really a long term plan of mine. The idea being that the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway built a line from Wells to Chilcompton, with this station being located just outside Green Ore (hence Green Ore Road). Here the line narrows from the double track from Chilcompton to the single track down hill grade to Wells, and also makes a junction with a private mineral Railway, the terminus of which is located near East Water and sits above the fiddle yard on the model. The layout is around 20 feet long by 7 feet wide.
A map of the area showing the route of the line is available here.
This layout was never named, but was intended to be North American N Scale. The layout is 3600mm long by 450mm widening to 600mm wide at the ends.
This layout was drawn with XTrkCad, you can download the xtc file for the layout here as a zip folder.(11kb)
Bath - Green Street is my current layout, it is intended as a somewhat generic BR era urban layout, while the name shows up my interest in all things S&D. The layout is 3600mm long by 450mm wide, and splits into three 1200mm long boards.
This layout was drawn with Templot, if I can work out what I've done with the box file I will make it available to download.
Smallford is a station on the now closed line from from St. Albans to Hatfield in Hertsfordshire. I had intended at one time to build the layout as a small N scale layout, and the plan reflects my intentions to build it as a continuous run. The plan shown was intended to be 6 feet long by 2 feet wide.
A small scale 1883 Ordinance Survey map of Smallford can be seen here. There is also a Templot box file for the trackwork in the scenic portion of this layout in N scale, which can be downloaded here.(58kb) Further details of Smallford were published in the February 2005 issue of Railway Modeller.
Minories is a design first drawn by Cyrill Freezer and published in the April 1957 issue of Railway Modeller, this design is nearly 50 years old and is still a popular choice and source of inspiration for many layouts.
